The History of CRDF Solutions
CRDF Solutions is a suite of services provided by CRDF Global, an independent nonprofit that promotes international science collaboration. Starting as one service -the Grant Assistance Program (GAP)- now we offer a variety of services (FOCUS, IMPACT, LOGIC, SPARK) to fit the needs of today’s science.
| 1995 | - CRDF Global is authorized by the U.S. Congress and established by the National Science Foundation as an independent nonprofit organization

| 1996 | - The Grant Assistance Program (GAP) is offered by International Science Foundation (ISF) as mechanism to get charitable assistance to former Soviet Union scientists in wake of collapse of USSR
- CRDF Global utilizes GAP via ISF to administer its awards
- CRDF Global quickly becomes one of the largest GAP clients (alongside Howard Hughes Medical Institute)

- ISF decides to discontinue administering GAP
- After submitting a proposal, CRDF Global is chosen to assume management of GAP service
|
| 1998 |
- CRDF Global formally launches a new version of GAP with reduced fee rates and expanded eligibility criteria
- Becomes core structure of internal grant administration department for CRDF Global awards and GAP client projects
- Transition of all ISF clients completed - including HHMI
- Eurasian banking crisis hits. CRDF Global is one of few organizations to lose no funds and one of the first to reestablish mechanisms to get funding to FSU scientists
- Initial contract established with DOE - Initiatives for Proliferation Prevention Program which becomes one of the largest GAP clients.

- ISF Russia Office formally converted to CRDF Global Representative Office in Russia
- ISF Ukraine office formally converted to CRDF Global Representative Office in Ukraine

| 2000-2004 | - GAP continues years of growth and sustainability

| 2005 | - First Department of State bio-industry grant
|
2006 | - First non-Eurasian GAP projects launched
|
| 2008 | - CRDF Global establishes a Russian for-profit company as the primary investor which becomes Global TechInnovations

| 2010 |
- CRDF Global restructures, redesigns, and rebrands GAP as CRDF Solutions with four service lines
- CRDF Solutions officially launches in September
- CRDF forms strategic partnership with Global TechInnovations and United States Industry Coalition within framework of Solutions
- CRDF Global opens office in Jordan

- Continued geographic expansion – first project successfully launched in China
- First project where recipient covers Solutions transfer cost instead of sponsor
- CRDF Solutions publishes inaugural issue of client newsletter, Directions

- New cost structure is introduced
- New website is launched
